DIY CRACKED HEELS AND HANDS CREAM: AN OUTLINE

Does your skin ever crack? Maybe it does when it’s cold outside, you’ve been washing your hands too much, or you just can’t find a lotion or hand cream that actually works for you. Whatever the reason may be, having cracked heels, hands, knees or elbows is far from fun and can even be painful. And with chemical laden lotions and creams that don’t always work, finding something to not only provide immediate relief, but also long term healing can be a pain in the neck. Luckily, we’ve got Shea butter.

Shea butter alone works amazingly well on dry and cracked skin. But sometimes it’s fun to mix things up- literally. With all of the abundance available when it comes to skin healing ingredients, and the perfect way that Shea butter acts as a product base, making your own DIY healing and moisturizing balm for cracked and dry skin is a must try! And because it’s just so easy to simply take a few ingredients and mix them with some Shea butter, you don’t even need an official recipe. You can literally just throw them in a bowl, mix or whip them to your desired consistency, and voila! You’ve got yourself a nourishing, soothing and softening body balm.

A basic ratio of what you could use is as follows:

  • ½ cup raw African Shea butter

  • Up to ¼ cup other carrier oil of choice

  • Essential oil(s) of your choice

  • Mixing bowl and spoon or hand held mixer (for making a whipped butter)

  • Jar for storing your creation

Some of our favorite ingredients to use when making DIY Shea butter healing creams include Rosehip seed oil, Coconut oil, Cocoa butter, and vitamin E oil. If you’re a fan of essential oils, consider using skin regenerating ones such as Geranium, Rose or Turmeric. Each one of these oils soothes inflammation and helps your skin to regenerate and heal itself, which is especially helpful if you have deeply cracked heels or constantly cracked and dry hands.

Shea butter skincare is so easy, fun and versatile to use. Whether you prefer things to be simple and straight forward- just like straight up Shea butter, or more creative- like this DIY skin cream, there is an answer for you. Cracked and dry hands, elbows, knees and heels can be a thing of the past. Follow your creative whims with this blueprint in mind, and you’re sure to be cracked and dry skin free in no time.
