DIY SHEA BUTTER AND ESSENTIAL OIL FACE CREAM

If you already use Shea butter on your face, then you know the kind of soft, plump and radiant skin that comes from it. It doesn’t really need anything else added to it in order to be effective. But that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t add other ingredients to your Shea butter. If you want even more advanced anti aging results from your Shea butter skincare, blending in a few different ingredients is not only effective and easy, it’s also fun.

For a gentle and effective anti aging Shea butter face cream, all you need is some raw African Shea butter and a few high quality essential oils. For this recipe we’ve included some of our favorite essential oils for skin, but feel free to modify this recipe as you see fit.

What you need:

  • 8 oz. raw Shea butter
  • Geranium essential oil
  • Turmeric essential oil
  • Frankincense essential oil
  • Small mixing bowl
  • Spoon for mixing
  • Small jar

Let Shea butter sit in a warm place until soft enough to mix. You can slowly melt it over a double boiler if you wish, or place it in the sink full of warm or hot water. Once soft, start with 10 drops of each essential oil and mix. If you would like it stronger, use more. If not, just stay at ten. When a desired strength is reached, simply store Shea butter in a cool dry place and use daily as your updated Shea butter face cream.

We chose Geranium, Turmeric and Frankincense essential oils because their tissue regenerative and anti inflammatory properties are very potent and therapeutic for the skin. But if you have other essential oils that you know you would like to use instead, don’t hesitate to substitute or add on to the recipe as you see fit. Just make sure your oils are high quality and pure to avoid any irritations. Some other oils you could use include Clary Sage, Lavender and Rose Otto.

Your skin can be clear, soft, supple and radiant. Your beauty routine can be simple, enjoyable and effective. You don’t need a laundry list of products and multi step routines to have the skincare results you want. You can keep it simple and just use plain Shea butter, or spice things up and give this essential oil face cream a try. Either way, you’ll have the Shea butter skincare results you desire.
