DIY SHEA BUTTER EYE CREAM: AN OUTLINE

Contrary to popular belief, you do not have to spend a lot of time or money on an effective anti aging eye cream. You can get results using simple, real and natural ingredients that don’t cost you a fortune. Raw African Shea butter contains everything the delicate skin around your eyes needs in order to stay soft, smooth, elastic and bright. And while Shea butter skincare products work wonderfully, as does plain Shea butter, why not turn it up a notch and make your own Shea butter anti aging eye cream at home?

While there are many different variations you can do, the main thing is to be strategic about the ingredients you use. Because the skin around your eyes is so thin and does not produce its own oil, you want to make sure that it gets lots of gentle anti inflammatory compounds and plenty of deeply penetrating moisture. You also want to nourish the collagen in your eye area since it is largely responsible for the resiliency and plumpness of your skin there.

While Shea butter can do all of these things, mixing it with other skincare ingredients serves to enhance the overall results you can get with your homemade eye cream. Plus, it’s fun! One of the best carrier oils to mix with your raw African Shea butter is Rosehip Seed oil. Known as a “dry” oil, it sinks into the skin quickly and is considered to be one of the best anti aging oils for helping to prevent wrinkles. Because the essential fatty acid profile of Rosehip seed oil is different than Shea butter, the lighter side of the Rosehip seed oil and the rich elements of the Shea butter pair perfectly together.

You can also use oils like Tamanu, Jojoba, Coconut and Seabuckthorn, all of which help to regenerate, protect and repair the delicate skin around your eyes. Each oil is teeming with anti aging compounds that gently nourish, protect and strengthen the skin and work even better in conjunction with Shea butter.

You can easily play around to find a personal formula that works best for you, substituting one oil for another, or adding them all to some Shea butter for a natural, easy to make and wonderfully effective DIY eye cream. This would also make a great gift for your friends and family, and has the added benefit of not being too costly. Enjoy!
